NASA defines 3I/ATLAS as an interstellar object—only the third of its kind ever observed. The "3I" stands for "third interstellar," and "ATLAS" is the survey system that discovered it.

This celestial traveler is not from our solar system. It’s moving too fast and in a trajectory that makes it clear: it came from somewhere else entirely.

Unlike comets and asteroids that orbit our sun in predictable cycles, interstellar objects like 3I/ATLAS originate from distant star systems, passing through our solar neighborhood just once before continuing their journey into the unknown.

It’s thought that around this time, Earth will receive the strongest influx of “light codes” or vibrational energy from the comet.
